Fasting Day 5: Praying for Pride and Arrogance

On Day 5 of our fasting journey, we come before the Lord to pray for the release of pride and arrogance in our lives. These attitudes can hinder our relationship with God and others, leading to division, self-centeredness, and a lack of humility. However, through the wisdom of God's Word and the power of His Spirit, we can overcome pride and arrogance and walk in humility and grace. Hallelujah!

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

In Proverbs 16:18 (NLT), it is written, "Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall." These words of wisdom remind us of the dangers of pride and arrogance. As believers, you are called to walk in humility, recognizing that all you have and all you are are by the grace of God. Hallelujah!

Proverbs 16:18 teaches us that pride leads to destruction and a fall. It is a reminder that we should not exalt ourselves above others or think of ourselves more highly than we ought to. Instead, we are called to humble ourselves before God and others, acknowledging our need for His guidance and grace. Hallelujah.

To overcome pride and arrogance, you must first recognize their presence in your heart. Pride can manifest in various ways, such as by boasting, seeking recognition, or looking down on others. Arrogance can lead us to believe that we are better or more important than others. Recognize that these attitudes are contrary to the teachings of Christ Jesus and seek God's help and guidance in humbling yourself. Hallelujah!

Remember Proverbs 16:18 as you break your fast and pray today. It warns us about the destructive nature of pride and arrogance. Let us pray for a humble and contrite heart, imitating Christ Jesus' humility and love in everything we do.

Dealing with pride and arrogance can teach us several lessons:

First, recognize that true wisdom comes from God. Proverbs 16:18 reminds us that pride leads to destruction, but humility leads to honor. By humbling ourselves before God, we open ourselves up to His wisdom and guidance, allowing Him to direct our paths.

Second, choose to walk in humility and grace, considering others more important than ourselves. Philippians 2:3–4 encourages us to do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit but, in humility, consider others better than ourselves. This mindset shift can transform our relationships and foster unity and love.

Third, let go of the need for recognition and praise, seeking instead to serve and uplift others. Matthew 23:12 teaches that those who exalt themselves will be humbled, but those who humble themselves will be exalted. By seeking to serve and bless others, we reflect the heart of Christ Jesus and experience true fulfillment.

In James 4:6, it is written, "But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says, 'God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.'" Let us, therefore, humble ourselves before God, recognizing that His grace is sufficient for us and that true greatness is found in serving others.

Lastly, according to Proverbs 11:2, when pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. Choose to walk in humility and seek wisdom from God. By humbling ourselves, we open ourselves up to His guidance and understanding, enabling us to make wise and righteous decisions.

So, today, let us come before the Lord and surrender our pride and arrogance. Through His grace and the power of His Spirit, we can walk in humility and experience the blessings that come from a humble and contrite heart. Hallelujah.

Let us all pray,

Heavenly Father,

I come before You today, humbly seeking Your divine presence and guidance. Your Word teaches us that pride goes before destruction and arrogance leads to a fall (Proverbs 16:18, NLT). Lord, I confess that at times I have allowed pride to creep into my heart and arrogance to cloud my judgment. I ask for Your forgiveness and mercy, dear Lord.

Help me to embrace the wisdom found in Philippians 2:3–4, which reminds us to do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Instead, in humility, may I value others above myself, looking not only to my own interests but also to the interests of others. Lord, grant me the strength to lay aside my pride and arrogance and to walk in humility and love.

In Matthew 23:12, Christ Jesus teaches us that those who exalt themselves will be humbled, but those who humble themselves will be exalted. Father, I surrender my pride and arrogance to You, knowing that true greatness is found in humility. Help me to seek Your will above my own desires and to serve others selflessly.

James 4:6 reminds us that You oppose the proud but give grace to the humble. Lord, I pray for Your grace to fill my heart, that I may be clothed in humility and rid myself of any trace of pride. May Your grace empower me to treat others with kindness, compassion, and respect, always acknowledging that it is by Your grace alone that I am saved.

Proverbs 11:2 teaches us that pride leads to disgrace, but humility brings wisdom. Lord, I desire to walk in Your wisdom and to gain understanding. I humbly ask that You remove any remnants of pride and arrogance from my heart, replacing them with a spirit of humility and meekness. Grant me the wisdom to recognize my own limitations and to rely fully on You.

In the mighty name of Christ Jesus, I pray, believing that You hear and answer my prayers. May Your Holy Spirit continue to work in me, transforming my heart and molding me into the image of Christ Jesus. I surrender my pride and arrogance at Your feet, knowing that in You alone I find true humility and peace.

Thank You, Lord, for Your love, mercy, and grace. I trust in Your perfect plan for my life, and I commit to walking in humility, honoring You in all that I do. In Christ Jesus' mighty name, I have prayed. Amen.

In conclusion, remember the wisdom of God's Word and strive for humility. True greatness lies in serving others and seeking God's will above one's own desires. As believers, you are built up and strengthened through the Church's power. Unity, support, and encouragement are crucial for God's kingdom. Remember the importance of fellowship and community in our faith journey.

Give your thanksgiving offertory and tithes, honoring God's provision and faithfulness. Give generously and cheerfully, knowing that God blesses those who give with a joyful heart. May the grace of the Lord Christ Jesus be with you always.
