Be Alert

 

1 Peter 5:8 (AMP):

"Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour."

Praise God, Church Family of Faith!

1 Peter 5:8 is a call to be alert and watchful. This scripture encourages believers to stay grounded in the Word of God, connected to the Body of Christ, and focused on the mission of God. It offers practical steps to help you stay alert and overcome the enemy's attacks. Hallelujah!

The Apostle Peter wrote this letter to encourage and strengthen the believers who were facing persecution and suffering. Peter urged believers to be alert and watchful because the devil was seeking to destroy them. The word "alert" means to be awake, vigilant, and aware of what is happening around you. This message is a call to be spiritually sober and disciplined, not allowing yourselves to be caught off guard by the enemy's attacks.

My dear brothers and sisters, today's gospel message is a call to be alert. 

You live in a world that is full of distractions, temptations, and dangers. The devil is constantly seeking to deceive, discourage, and destroy you. But you have a God who is greater than any enemy, and God has given you the power to overcome. Hallelujah!

Let us look at three points to help us stay alert:

Point 1: Stay grounded in the Word of God.

The Bible is your source of truth and wisdom. The Bible is the lamp that guides your feet and the light that illuminates your path. We must therefore make it a priority to read, study, and meditate on God's Word daily. As we do so, we will be equipped to discern between truth and lies, and we will be strengthened to resist temptation.

Point 2: Stay connected to the Body of Christ.

You were not meant to live the Christian life alone. You need the support, encouragement, and accountability of other believers. We must be actively involved in a local church, where we can worship, learn, serve, and grow together. As we do so, we will be protected from isolation, deception, and backsliding.

Point 3: Stay focused on the mission of God.

You have been called to be an ambassador of Christ, to share the good news of salvation with a lost and dying world. We must be intentional about living out our faith, sharing our testimony, and making disciples. As we do so, we will be empowered by the Holy Spirit, and we will be protected from complacency, apathy, and compromise.

In conclusion therefore, my dear friends in Christ, let us be alert and watchful, knowing that our enemy the devil is always prowling around like a roaring lion. 

More so let every believer be confident and courageous, knowing that our God is with us and for us. 

Let us stay grounded in the Word of God, connected to the Body of Christ, and focused on the mission of God. 

And let us pray for one another, that we may be strengthened, encouraged, and empowered to live for Him.

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, I thank you for your Word, which is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. 

I ask that you would help us to stay alert and watchful, knowing that the devil is seeking to devour us. 

I pray that you would help us to stay grounded in your Word, connected to the Body of Christ, and focused on your mission. 

I ask that you would protect us from the enemy's attacks, and that you would empower us to live for you. In Christ Jesus' mighty name, I have prayed. 

Amen.
